Other Schedule Information:
We offer flexible schedules with a wide range of work shifts that will fit with your class schedule, but we prefer applicants who are available to work at least 1 evening shift, or a Saturday shift, each week. Brown Library Assistants work closely with librarians and other staff, so they gain extra research skills and support with school assignments. We are also happy to provide opportunities for job shadowing and training if our student assistants are interested in working in a library or other educational setting long-term.

Purpose or Role of the Position within the Organization:
The purpose of the position is to provide superior services and support to all students and other library visitors throughout the Brown Library building.
Duties/Responsibilities of the position and how they relate to the purpose or role:
The duties listed below are designed to support our students and other visitors by providing a helpful, calm and organized environment suitable for research and study. Duties include:
- Greeting and helping visitors at our main desks, answering phones, and responding to emails.
- Providing basic assistance with Canvas and Microsoft Word, helping students print and scan documents, and referring complex questions to the Help Desk for follow-up.
- Checking books and other library materials out to visitors and keeping our bookshelves organized and tidy.
- Ensuring the library space remains a calm and orderly environment for students and visitors.
- Showing students how to schedule their own tutoring appointments and giving directions to the tutoring centers on campus.
- Working closely with librarians and other staff. A benefit to this aspect of the job is that student assistants gain extra research skills and support with school assignments. We are also happy to provide opportunities for job shadowing and training if our student assistants are interested in working in a library or other educational setting long-term.
