The program consists of on-campus classes and clinical courses conducted at facilities in the Roanoke Valley and New River Valley, including a Level 1 Trauma center. Students are trained on state-of-the-art equipment using advanced techniques for imaging diagnosis. This training rotates through the operating rooms (OR) and imaging modalities such as CT, MRI, mammography, interventional radiography, cardiac cath, and others.
What do Radiologic Technologists Do?
- Provide quality imaging for patient diagnosis and deliver adequate amounts of radiation for imaging procedures.
- Ensure radiation safety measures for patients and themselves. They also administer contrast medias via oral routes or injections for certain procedures, and provide imaging for patients in the ICU, NICU, post-operative recovery rooms and operating rooms.
- Work with other health care professionals during trauma alerts or surgical procedures, and may modify imaging procedures as necessary for patient comfort or proper diagnosis.

The Radiography Program strives to provide quality educational experiences that ensure students prepare academically, clinically and professionally to develop intelligent, flexible and mature responses to the changing nature of medical imaging.
