Due to our primarily online environment for Spring 2021, students are not required to have photo Student ID cards. This is also true for students who are attending on-campus classes. For the following services that typically need ID, you may use other forms identification this fall (typically a government issued photo ID and your EMPL ID Number).
Valley Metro bus service will continue to require a Virginia Western Photo Student ID Card with the current semester enrollment sticker.
If you are a new student enrolled in Spring 2021 classes, and you need a new Student ID for any reason, please schedule your appointment using Navigate. (Choose “Student Life”). Appointments are available in-person and online.
If you choose an online appointment, we will meet with you via Zoom. You may have your ID mailed to your home address.

If you are a returning student, and you only need a Spring 2021 enrollment sticker, you will need to make an ID appointment in Navigate to get your sticker. This is available in person (pick up sticker on campus) and virtually (sticker will be mailed).
Student IDs are available for your official identification as a Virginia Western Community College student. All students are encouraged to get a free Student ID in order to access benefits and services. The Student ID office is located on the 3rd Floor of the Student Life Center – at the Student Information Desk across from Subway.
To obtain a photo Student ID, please bring the following to the Student ID office:
- Government issued proof of identification (Driver’s License, DMV ID, Passport, Military ID, High School ID)
- EMPL ID number
- Copy of your schedule for the current academic term (print or electronic copy).
New students who attend a Discover orientation may obtain a card before the semester begins. All other new students will be served on the first day of classes of each academic term.
Student IDs are not required to attend classes, and can be obtained throughout the semester during open office hours or by appointment. The first Student ID is free of charge for all students.
Returning students with a Student ID Card should bring the card and a copy of their schedule (print or electronic copy) to get an ID Validation Sticker for the current academic term. Without this sticker, the card is invalid.
Returning students who have had a gap in enrollment must use the first card issued and are subject to the replacement policy.
A $5 replacement fee will be charged for any lost or stolen cards. Please pay the fee to the Cashier’s Office in Chapman Hall and bring the receipt to the Student ID Office to show proof of payment. Students may retake a photo at this time, if needed. Damaged or excessively worn cards will be reissued at no cost at the discretion of the Student Activities Coordinator.
Students who have had a gap in enrollment of two years or more will have the replacement fee waived.
The Student ID card is not transferable to another person. Students may be subject to disciplinary action for lending a Student ID card to someone else, possessing more than one Student ID, and attempting to use a card of another individual.
The Student ID card is used on campus for the Virginia Western Fitness Center, Brown Library, and to use the Valley Metro bus service for students. The Student Activities Office does not keep a list of available Student ID Discounts, but encourages students to ask if student discounts are available. Frequently, entertainment venues and retail shops will offer student discounts.
