FFEligible logo Certified Nurse Aide

Interested in a career in nursing? Picture yourself in “scrubs”? Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs) are in high demand in Roanoke and it’s no wonder–CNAs work hard and are key members of the health care team. There are hundreds of openings in Roanoke in settings such as long-term care centers, assisted living facilities, hospitals, home health care businesses, and even doctor’s offices.

Employment as a CNA is one step on the nursing career pathway and a useful introduction to patient care. Duties may include measuring patient vital signs, assisting patients with activities of daily living such as bathing and dressing, making beds and safely transferring patients from beds to chairs. The work is challenging, but caring for others can be rewarding.  Many LPNs and RNs started as a CNA.

Virginia Western Community College’s fast-paced Workforce Nurse Aide program is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing. Successful graduates will be qualified to take the NNAAP exam leading to certification as a nurse aide (CNA)! Well-qualified students may even have an employment agreement (based upon successful completion of the program) prior to graduation.

Come learn and practice skills on the same campus where Virginia Western’s other nursing students study. Gain the knowledge and learn the skills you’ll need to pass the NNAAP exam. Our friendly and qualified staff are here to help you succeed. Tuition assistance is often available and the training typically takes less than 6 weeks.
