A Virginia Western syllabus should define college and class policies as well as class expectations. These policies are enforceable and supported by the college as long as they are in writing on the syllabus and followed consistently for all students.
To accomplish this, the following information should appear on all syllabi:
- College Name
- Course title and number
- Semester/Year
- Instructor Name
- Contact Methods and Response time
- Office hours Statement
- Attendance Policy
- Grading Policy
- Make-up/Late work Policy
- Penalties for Academic Misconduct Violations
- Inclement weather schedule specific to the class meeting time(s) as applicable
- Final Exam Statement
- AI Statement
Syllabi should be posted on the course LMS shell and sent to the academic school office by 8:00 am on the first day of classes each session.
The syllabus module in the LMS will include:
- Part I: Instructor Syllabus with all above information
- Part II: College Syllabus, which includes the full text of the ADA statement, the Title IX statement, and a link to the Academic Calendar
- Part III: link to the Course Outline
