The Career Services Manager provides strategic leadership in advancing student and alumni success through the coordination and supervision of comprehensive career and work-based learning programs. As a key member of the Student Affairs unit, this role ensures that career readiness is embedded throughout the student lifecycle, beginning with onboarding and continuing through graduation and beyond. The manager leads a professional team that delivers advising, experiential learning, and employer engagement initiatives while collaborating with academic and workforce divisions to connect classroom learning with real-world career pathways.
This position is essential to the college’s mission by guiding students in setting clear educational and career goals, developing workforce readiness skills, and gaining access to internships, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities. It enhances the visibility and impact of Career Services through effective management of technology systems, job platforms, and data-driven practices that strengthen outreach and track outcomes. The manager also coordinates recruitment events and serves as a primary contact for employers, students, alumni, and the community, ensuring that all stakeholders have meaningful access to career development resources and opportunities.
As a collaborative and student-centered leader, the Career Services Manager fosters innovation, accountability, and inclusiveness across all services. By cultivating partnerships with faculty, employers, and community organizations, the role ensures that Career Services remains a vital, visible, and integrated component of the college’s mission to prepare students and graduates for meaningful, sustainable careers and lifelong success.
Work Tasks and Duties
Leadership and Day-to-Day Management of Career Services – 35%
- Provides strategic and operational leadership for the Career Services unit, ensuring alignment with institutional goals for student success and workforce readiness.
- Supervises full-time and part-time staff, including the Career Work-Based Learning (WBL) Advisor, Office Administrator, and Federal Work-Study (FWS) employees.
- Oversees time and attendance approval, Time and Effort reporting, and staff scheduling to ensure consistent, high-quality service delivery.
- Provides coaching, mentorship, and professional development for staff while maintaining effective operations, procedures, and systems.
- Promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence focused on delivering impactful, student-centered services.
Event, Program, and Service Delivery Leadership – 25%
- Leads the planning, promotion, and execution of major career events, including the Career Fairs and related workshops, panels, and networking sessions.
- Ensures that all events are effectively marketed through campus communications, digital platforms, and faculty engagement.
- Serves as the primary contact for purchase requests, event logistics, and facility coordination.
- Manages online service delivery and ensures the effective use of platforms such as Symplicity CSM, Big Interview, and Career Coach to support student and alumni engagement.
- Leads resume reviews, advising sessions, and registration systems for students, faculty, and employers, ensuring efficient and inclusive access to services.
- Collaborates across campus to integrate career readiness into classroom instruction and co-curricular programs.
Employer Engagement and Workforce Partnerships – 20%
- Develops and maintains strategic partnerships with employers and industry partners to expand student access to internships, apprenticeships, and employment opportunities.
- Conducts employer consultations to assess hiring needs and connect business partners with qualified student and alumni talent.
- Manages the online job board and coordinates on-campus recruiting activities, including event scheduling, room reservations, and related logistics.
- Strengthens collaboration with local businesses and workforce organizations to build sustainable recruitment pipelines that benefit both students and the community.
Strategic Academic and Workforce Initiatives Coordination – 10%
- Provides coordinated support for workforce and work-based learning initiatives that support the college’s mission to advance student employability and career success.
- Leads strategic planning, proposal development, and implementation of grant-funded projects that enhance experiential learning and employer partnerships.
- Monitors objectives, outcomes, and compliance requirements to ensure program effectiveness and institutional impact.
Institutional Collaboration and Continuous Improvement – 5%
- Fosters collaboration with academic and workforce units to embed career development throughout the student lifecycle.
- Represents Career Services on college committees and contributes to strategic initiatives that strengthen student success, workforce readiness, and community engagement.
- Uses data analytics and stakeholder feedback to assess program outcomes, improve service quality, and ensure alignment with the college’s strategic goals.
Other Duties as Assigned – 5%
- Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President of Student Affairs to support divisional goals, institutional initiatives, and special projects that promote student success, workforce development, and operational excellence.
