Virginia’s first adult high school partners with Virginia Western to build direct pathways from diploma to career

Virginia Western and The Excel Center held an event Friday, March 13, to celebrate a new partnership. Here is a joint news release from Virginia Western and Goodwill Industries of the Valleys, which operates The Excel Center:

Free help sessions coming up for scholarship opportunities at Virginia Western

The Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation invites students to apply for general scholarships at Virginia Western Community College. Sessions in March and April are designed to help students with that process.

“We currently offer more than 130 scholarships to a wide range of students — full and part time, traditional and adult learners — and in most programs of study,” said Annie Fentress, Scholarship and Community College Access Program Coordinator. “Award amounts vary from $500 to more than $3,000, while most scholarships are need-based and not tied to academic merit.” Continue Reading Free help sessions coming up for scholarship opportunities at Virginia Western

Mountain Gateway and Virginia Western Community Colleges partner to expand CDL training

Mountain Gateway Community College and Virginia Western Community College have formalized a strategic partnership to enhance Commercial Driver’s License instruction and regional workforce readiness. An official signing on Tuesday, February 24, by Dr. John J. Rainone, President of MGCC, and Dr. Laura J. Treanor, President of Virginia Western, solidified the collaboration.

Dr. David Doré, Virginia Community College System Chancellor, has called for community colleges to forge institutional partnerships that optimize resources and expand high-demand workforce programs. Dental Hygiene students represent profession to legislators in Richmond

Virginia Western Community College’s Dental Hygiene Program exists “to empower students to become ethical, self-directed primary care providers.” Students in the program lived out that mission even before graduation by uniting at a Rally Day in Virginia’s General Assembly to advocate for their profession and patients.

Virginia Western student veterans return from Colorado convention knowing they can ‘make a difference’

Supporting military-connected students at Virginia Western Community College can extend far beyond the Roanoke Valley’s borders. Three student veterans journeyed to Colorado in January for a valuable opportunity for networking and personal growth.

The Student Veterans of America National Conference, known as NatCon, is the largest gathering of student veterans globally. Virginia Western counts among over 1,600 campuses across the U.S. and abroad with SVA chapters. The 18th Annual NatCon took place Jan. 8-10, 2026, at The Broadmoor Resort and Convention Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
