Virginia Western Community College staff member Brittany Boltinghouse has received a statewide accolade for her contributions to workforce development.
The Virginia Community College System (VCCS) awarded Boltinghouse, who is Virginia Western’s Program Coordinator for Workforce Solutions, with Outstanding Achievement from a “Rising Star.” The award was given Nov. 14 at the Hire Ed Awards ceremony during the Hire Education Conference at the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center.

For the award, a “rising star” is a college-based faculty or staff member with three or less years in workforce development services who has demonstrated remarkable talents and dedication to furthering workforce development initiatives early in their career and has shown exemplary potential for future contributions to the field.
The following remarks shared at the awards ceremony highlight Boltinghouse’s contributions:
“Brittany Boltinghouse represents the energy, innovation and leadership shaping the future of workforce development across the VCCS. In less than two years as Program Coordinator at Virginia Western Community College, she has expanded high-demand healthcare training programs and forged powerful partnerships that directly strengthen Virginia’s workforce.
“Under her leadership, Virginia Western launched new programs in CMAA [Certified Medical Administrative Assistant] and CNA [Certified Nurse Aide], achieving 44% enrollment growth in Dental Radiation and addressing the region’s critical healthcare workforce needs. Her partnership with the Roanoke Regional Housing Authority earned national recognition with the 2025 National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO) Award of Merit for expanding access to residents who face barriers to education and employment.
“Brittany’s creative approach to scheduling, funding and flexible delivery has made healthcare training accessible to working adults and families, while her collaboration with Carilion Clinic and Total Action for Progress builds seamless pipelines from training to employment. With a 90% credentialing rate and strong faculty retention, her programs reflect both excellence and sustainability.
“Brittany Boltinghouse stands out as a true rising star within the Virginia Community College System. Her vision, compassion and measurable results demonstrate extraordinary leadership that will shape the future of Virginia’s workforce for years to come.”
