Virtual desktops are accessible both on and off campus from various devices, including laptops, thin clients, Virginia Western desktop PCs, home computers (including Mac and Chromebook), iPads, and tablets.
Four Ways to Reach Your Desktop
Web Browser Portal
Access your virtual desktop with a browser, on or off campus, by visiting https://remote.virginiawestern.edu. No install required.
Omnissa Horizon Client
The Omnissa Horizon Client is pre-installed on college laptops and downloadable for personal PCs, Macs, and tablets. It can be downloaded from:
- Off campus: https://remote.virginiawestern.edu
- On campus: https://campusview.vw.edu
Thin Clients (On Campus)
Sign in with your Virginia Western credentials at any office thin client to reach your usual desktop.
What is a thin client?
A thin client is a compact device that connects remotely to a virtual desktop and functions as a full computer for information-worker tasks like Office, web, and email.
Is it slower than a PC? A thin client isn’t a standalone computer, so don’t compare it directly. Each desktop is sized to need; report performance concerns to the Help Desk for more resources.
Restarting a thin client: Hold the front power button, or briefly unplug power from the rear of the unit. NOTE: Restarting the thin client does NOT reboot the virtual desktop.
Campus Systems
Sign in with your Virginia Western credentials at https://campusview.vw.edu on instructor stations, conference rooms, and campus laptops connected through the college gateway.
