Virtual desktops are accessible both on and off campus from various devices, including laptops, thin clients, VWCC desktop PCs, home computers (Mac and Chromebook), iPads, and tablets. The ways to connect are described in the following sections.
Access Options
Access via Thin Clients on Campus
Most offices are equipped with thin clients. This is the primary option. You can use any thin client to reach your virtual desktop.
Note: If there’s an issue with your thin client device, you suspect one or you need to work somewhere else, just log in with your credentials on another thin client to access your usual virtual desktop.
Access via Web Browser – On or Off Campus
Any device that supports a web browser can access the virtual desktop web portal available at these links:
- Off campus: https://remote.virginiawestern.edu
- On campus: https://campusview.vw.edu
Access via College Issued Laptop
All college issued laptops have the Omnissa client installed to facilitate access to virtual desktops.
Access Using Personal PC or Laptop
A laptop, PC or tablet equipped with the Omnissa Horizon client with Internet connectivity can access your virtual desktop.
Note: The Omnissa Horizon client offers enhanced features and is recommended for optimal performance, but the browser option remains convenient and straightforward.
What are the benefits of connecting from home?
Your desktop is the same when you connect from home. You have the same applications, drives, documents, and recent activity. You can work remotely seamlessly. Simply disconnect and resume wherever you left off working, regardless of location.
Note: If you are in a non-exempt position, ensure that you are approved for remote work through your supervisor and Human Resources.
Access via Laptop, Instructor Station, or Conference Room System
Access virtual desktops from any of these locations when you’re on campus by visiting https://campusview.vw.edu.
Obtaining the Omnissa Horizon Client
The client application can be downloaded from https://campusview.vw.edu or https://remote.virginiawstern.edu.
