Effective July 1, 2026, the Virginia Retirement System (VRS) Optional Group Life Insurance Program through Securian officially implemented a rate reduction impacting the below distinct age brackets.

 The newly reduced monthly premium rates per $1,000 of coverage include:

• Ages 50-54: Decreased from $0.20 to $0.19
• Ages 55-59: Decreased from $0.31 to $0.30
• Ages 60-64: Decreased from $0.54 to $0.52
• Ages 65-69: Decreased from $1.02 to $0.99
• Ages 70 and older: Decreased from $2.06 to $2.00

If you are enrolled in supplemental life insurance through Securian and have a payroll deduction, the change in rates for the above age groups will be seen on the 07/16/2026 paycheck. If you are enrolled and outside of the age ranges stated above, your rate remains the same.
