The Virginia Master Teachers Seminar is held each summer on the campus of Hampden-Sydney College and is sponsored by Southside Virginia Community College. This year is the 25th year for the seminar which will take place June 28 – July 2. Teachers from all types of higher learning institutions across the nation and from a variety of academic disciplines attend the event. The sole aim of the seminar is a practical exploration of ways to improve teaching. The focus of discussion and activities for the entire week is innovation and excellence in classroom teaching.
The Virginia Community Colleges Association (VCCA) offers a scholarship for one individual to attend the Virginia Master Teachers Seminar in the name of Dr. Johnnie E. Merritt, the beloved past president of Central Virginia Community College. If you are interested in applying for the scholarship, please complete the application found at the link below and send a one-page typed overview of your goals and interests in teaching to Theresa Thomas, VCCA President-Elect at firstname.lastname@example.org. The VCCA Executive Committee would like to know how attending the Virginia Master Teacher Seminar would enhance your professional goals/interests. Please include specific objectives of your professional development such as instructional technology, collaborative learning, or classroom presentation strategies.
The deadline for submitting your application and essay is April 10, 2015. Selections will be announced no later than May 1, 2015. Applicants will be notified of selection by email.
