The Strand Revival Committee Presents Strand Theatre Revival

When: May 24, 6 p.m.

Where: Claude Moore Education Complex

109 Henry Street, Roanoke VA 24016

Built in 1923, the Strand Theatre was a beacon for black art, music and film in Roanoke’s Gainsboro neighborhood. Once home to legendary filmmaker Oscar Micheaux’s production company, it later became the Lincoln Theatre, Morocco club, and Ebony Cub, hosting jazz legends and rock and roll icons.

This venue was more than a theatre–it was a movement. It fostered black excellence in the arts, provided a safe space for expression, and shaped the cultural heartbeat that lives in all of us. We’re bringing it back for a one-day revival event to honor its past, celebrate its impact, and inspire future generations! Join us in keeping the legacy alive.

Featuring live music, refreshments and a historic exhibit.
