Mini Baja Challenge

Have you ever wondered how you can help Virginia Western’s own Mini Baja Team consistently be the 1st place finishing community college team and finish in front teams from UVA, JMU, and others? Want to help them reach the 1st place team overall?

Two generous employees want to make it easier for you to help, and join them in supporting these outstanding students. These employees have contributed $2,000 to support the Mini Baja Team in their 2013 efforts. They want you to join the team…and give! They are encouraging other faculty, staff, and students to support their efforts and match their total of $2,000 by Friday, March 29. You can give by check, cash, or payroll deduction through the Educational Foundation to support the team. Simply write on your check “Mini Baja” or include a note with your cash contribution, it’s that simple!

To give by payroll deduction, or if you have questions contact Erik Williams at 857-8914 or ewilliams@virginiawestern.edu.

Thank you for your support!!

Help your students improve their grades with Panopto

The Media Geeks would like you to take a few minutes to watch our video about how using Panopto can help students get better grades and improve study habits (So the students say!)  http://youtu.be/BmXrUz9cp7o

And if that's not enough to convince you to at least give it a try, here is a recent quote from a professor here at VWCC (name withheld to protect the innocent):

Here is a testimonial from someone who thinks that technology will be the downfall of civilization . . . I have used Panopto to keep from getting behind in my MWF lectures in XXXX when we are out for snow days.  I have been taping my class lecture on Thursday if there is snow in the forecast and then posting it for my Friday classes when we miss, so am able to keep all my classes on the same schedule and not get too far behind in the MWF sections.

So, I have to admit, that yes, this technology is very useful and that even I can figure out how to use it if I try.

Posting to the Daily Bulletin

Do you have information to share with the college community? Post your notices to the Daily Bulletin!

Postings should be college related with the exception of information included in Friday's bulletin posts, "Community Events" and "For Sale/Buy/Trade/Free." (see note below about different posting instructions for these posts)

Your postings could include:

  • Professional development opportunities
  • New employees to your office (even if they aren't new to the college)
  • Personal professional development milestones (publication of a book, journal articles, awards, etc)
  • Congratulations to an individual or team for completion of a project, task or event
  • Business process updates or changes
  • Birth or death announcements
  • Retirement announcements
  • And much more!

A few things to remember:

  • Postings should be short and to the point (think about the basics that would get your attention)
  • No graphics or tables (the bulletins are emails; graphics and tables take up server space)
  • A new posting must be submitted for each day you want the post to run (the program doesn't allow multiple date selection so three posting dates means you submit the post new three times - don't worry, you can copy and paste)
  • If a posting is not for the next day, include the run date at the top of the message (ex. Please run on 11/30)
  • Postings must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. the day prior (postings submitted on Friday will run on Monday)
  • No bulletins are sent on Saturday, Sunday or any day the college is closed
  • Send Community Event or For Buy/Sale/Trade/Free postings to publicrelations@virginiawestern.edu
