News From Brown Library

GOOD NEWS:  The library’s top floor is being renovated!

BAD NEWS:  We have to close the top floor and send most of our books to storage.

GOOD NEWS:  Resources and services will still be available on the library’s main floor!

Starting on Monday, December 3rd, all library staff members will be working on the main floor, providing the resources and services to support your information needs.  The majority of our traditional print books will be stored, but we still have an extensive electronic book collection of over 40,000 academic titles.  We also have free interlibrary loan service that allows you to get academic books and articles from other libraries.

Call us (857-7303), visit our website, or even better, come visit us in person.  We’re here to help you.

There is still a need for positions on campus for Federal Work-Study (FWS) eligible students! We have a handful of students who are looking for positions! Current work-study students can assist in a variety of ways depending on specific departmental needs.

If you'd like more details or clarification on what type of assistance a work-study student can provide to you, please contact me! This is a great opportunity to help the student utilize their work-study award, which is a valuable source of financial aid, and gain employment skills as well as helping staff manage daily activities!

Please send a Personnel Requisition to me at ahuffman@virginiawestern.edu so that we can get your position posted! You can find the form in VWConnect under HR Forms or I'll be happy to email you one. Thank you for your assistance!

CommonHealth: Growing Younger

Sue Perry, CommonHealth Regional Coordinator, will be on campus facilitating the Growing Younger program and providing desk-to-desk mini presentations.  If you are interested in participating in the classroom presentation, please contact Denise Schuh and reserve your space:  dschuh@virginiawestern.edu or 857-7962.

Growing Younger

Tuesday, December 4th 2012

1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Human Resources/Workforce Development Training Room

Below is an excerpt from CommonHealth about the program:

“No matter where we live, what type of work we do, and how well we take care of ourselves, we are all getting older.

The purpose of the Growing Younger program is to identify those areas where we as individuals and families can take action to slow down our physical and mental aging while our chronological age continues to climb.  Whether we are the older family members or if we are caring for our parents and grandparents, there is a lot to consider.

With CommonHealth’s help, you can learn how to maximize your physical and mental health so that you can make the most out of life (and look great while doing it).

We all want to look and feel our best, regardless of how old we are, but we can get caught up in the latest anti-aging craze or find ourselves looking for a quick fix to turn back the clock.  Sometimes we may settle for aches and pains or a chronic condition that we can avoid or improve, just because we feel like that is what happens as you get older.

There is nothing that beats living well for keeping yourself in the optimal condition for making the most of your life and the lives of your loved ones.  CommonHealth can give you information on the best and most reliable ways to stay young, vital, and active, no matter what your chronological age is today.  Focusing on exercise, good nutrition, staying mentally sharp, expanding your community, increasing joy, kicking tobacco, and issues of caregiving, Growing Younger can be your ticket to the fountain of youth.”
