Cultureship: The ACBs of Business Leadership

On Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 8 a.m. in Whitman Theater, JASON BINGHAM will speak on the concepts in his forthcoming book, Cultureship:  The ACB’s of Business Leadership.  Jason is a member of the Virginia Western Educational Foundation Board of Directors and was instrumental in the establishment of the Community College Access Program for Roanoke City. He served as District Manager of Virginia Trane for several years and is currently serving as Vice President of the Central Territory for Trane.  Jason will be highlighting Roanoke and Virginia Trane stories of strong culture. Please note that you MUST REGISTER. There is no cost to attend, and the RSVP deadline is Monday, November 12.

Friendship Retirement Community Check Presentation

The Virginia Western Educational Foundation is excited to announce that Friendship Retirement Community President and CEO Russ Barksdale will be on campus for a Check Presentation on Wednesday, November 7 at 10:30 a.m. in front of President Dr. Robert Sandel’s office, Fishburn Hall first floor. Please plan to attend.

 The presentation is the final step in the agreement to name the RN Nursing Lab and RN Simulation Lab in the Center for Science and Health Professions.

Disater Exercise Hotwash and Video – November 8th!

As a follow-up to our August 9th and 10th Disaster Exercise (Operation Blue Star Bedlam), all college employees are invited to the “VWCC Hotwash” on Thursday, November 8th.  During this session, drill participants will be able to share their stories of the day and the event.  Additionally, you will see a video produced by our Media Geeks (a big thank you to B Bagby for his hard work and dedication) which will provide a timeline of the event so everyone can see what took place from the beginning to the end of the event.

As you are able, please attend one of the three sessions of your choice.  These sessions are open to ALL college employees.  Ensure you coordinate the session you select with your supervisor and co-workers.

The Staff Senate will meet on Tuesday, November 13th at 11 a.m. in the Human Resources Training Room in Fishburn Hall room F002.

We will be discussing a number of regular business agenda items. Ms. Cheryl Miller will speak to the Senate regarding the Staff Senate's recent smoking proposal.

Mobile DMV Unit on campus Thursday

The mobile DMV will be on campus Thursday, November 8th, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. They will be in parking lot 1 behind the Natural Science Center.


Bookstore Inventory – Today

The Bookstore will be closed this morning for inventory. They will open after the inventory count is complete. They anticipate opening around 2 p.m. today.


Please join your fellow employees and friends on Friday, December 7th for our Annual Employee Holiday Luncheon. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. and run through 1:30 p.m. in the gymnasium on the first floor of the Humanities Building.

We will share a catered lunch consisting of traditional holiday meal favorites as well as a variety of vegetarian and gluten-free dishes and desserts. Please use the following link to register to attend the luncheon. When you complete the registration it assist us in making sure we do not overspend on food costs or order food that will go to waste. Please register by noon on November 30th.

Your registration will also put your name in the drawing for door prizes.
