Faculty Workshops For VIVA Grant Funds

VIVA will be holding workshops to help VCCS instructors prepare for and apply for the VIVA Open Adopt Grants. Held on successive Fridays in October at the VCCS System Office in Richmond, each are designed to give attendees a chance to discuss OER, work on their VIVA Adopt Grant applications, and discuss an OER adoption project with a VIVA representative. Teaching faculty are invited to attend one or both workshops, depending on their needs. Registration is here: https://forms.gle/h9fkNVq7dR9jTYVu5 and is due by October 13.

Workshop One: Choosing OER for your Classroom and for the VIVA Adopt Grant
Date: Friday, Oct. 20

Time 10:00 a.m. – Noon

Facilitator: Stephanie Westcott, Ph.D., VIVA Open and Sustainable Learning Coordinator

Agenda:

  • Intro to VIVA Adopt Grants – what is the difference between adopt and course grants?
  • What are your goals?
  • What makes a good course resource?
  • Copyright and licensing – what kind of resource can you adopt?
  • What if there’s no “one resource?”


Workshop Two: Applying for the VIVA Adopt Grant
Date: Friday, Oct. 27

Time: 10:00 a.m. – Noon

  • The Adopt Grant Application – what to keep in mind
  • How to calculate potential student savings accurately
  • How to Write an Informative Work Plan
  • The Statement of Goals and Impact – what does VIVA want to know?
