Influenza (Flu) in Virginia

As you know the health and safety of our campus has been challenged over the past two years due to the persistence of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  Although cases of COVID have dropped off significantly from our monthly highs, we need to ensure that we don’t let our guard down.  As COVID ebbs, we will likely be entering the throws of our yearly battle with Seasonal Influenza, commonly referred to as “the flu”.  The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by viruses that infect the nose, throat, and lungs.  Flu levels in our area are beginning to increase so we ask that everyone consider continuing the best practices we learned from the COVID outbreak.  Please stay vigilant with hand hygiene, cover coughs and sneezes, stay home if you are sick, and continue to wipe down touch surfaces as you are able.  Vaccinations are encouraged and are readily available in the Roanoke Valley.  We thank you for staying virus aware and doing your part to stay healthy and safe.   INFLUENZA (FLU) IN VIRGINIA
