Did you know that Heart Disease is the number one killer of women and men in America? Stroke is the number four cause of death in the U.S. Heart Disease and stroke claim more lives than all cancers combined.

As a result of local American Heart Association fundraisers major medical breakthroughs such as CPR, anti-rejection drugs, angioplasty, drug-coated heart stents and hypothermia therapy have been discovered and help in saving lives.

2014 Great SouthEast ShakeOut

The Great SouthEast ShakeOut is a multi-state earthquake drill spanning much of the southeastern United States. ShakeOut activities for Virginia are supported by Virginia Department of Emergency Management.   Please take a moment on 10/16/2014 at 10:16 AM to practice or familiarize yourself with the college's shelter in place locations and evacuation plans.  Remember, you cannot tell from the initial shaking if an earthquake will suddenly become intense…so always Drop, Cover, and Hold On immediately!

  • DROP to the ground (before the earthquake drops you!);
  • COVER your head and neck with your arms and seek shelter by getting under a sturdy desk or table if nearby; and
  • HOLD ON to your shelter and be ready to move with it until the shaking stops.

For more information please visit; http://www.shakeout.org/southeast/index.html
