Motivational Monday Lunch Series

The Alliance for Excellence is hosting a weekly Motivational Mondays Lunch Series this fall in the new Student Life Center!

Join together with other students every Monday at 12 p.m. in the S307 Conference Room to answer the question: How Do I Stay Motivated?  Students will learn their motivational style, tips to improve their motivation, how motivation influences attitude and much more. Sessions begin in October.

Free Salsa Dancing Class

Learn the steps to Salsa Dancing!

The Fitness Center will be offering FREE Salsa Dance classes for all currently enrolled students, faculty & staff!

What:Salsa Dancing!

Where: Fitness Center Studio

When: Tuesdays/Thursdays from 2:30pm - 3:30pm (through October 2nd)

Subway Open for Night Classes!

Teaching a night class?

Finding your students dazed and glazed over with hunger halfway through?

The Subway in the new student life center is here to help. Subway is open for night classes until 9pm daily and serving normal menu items. So nudge your students or come on out yourself, fuel your brain, and conquer those classes refreshed!

DMV 2 Go

Can't get to the DMV? The DMV is coming here!

The DMV mobile unit will be in parking lot 1 in front of the Natural Science Center on Thursday, October 16th, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The wireless office on wheels offers all DMV services:

  • Apply for or renew your ID card - children and adults.
  • Apply for or renew your driver's license - take road and knowledge tests; get your picture taken, reinstate driving privileges.
  • Get a copy of your driving record.
  • Obtain vehicle titles, license plates, decals, transcripts.
  • Order disabled parking placards or plates.
  • Recently moved? Stop in to upgrade your address on your DMV record. At the same time you can update your voter registration address and organ donor status.
  • And much more!

STAFF SENATE MEETING – THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH – REVIEW/REVISION OF BY-LAWS

The next Staff Senate Meeting will be Thursday, September 18th from 10:00am – 11:00am in the Natural Science Center, N101.

At this meeting, we will review, and if necessary, provide motions to revise the committee’s by-laws.

Future Staff Senate Meeting information is as follows:

  • Thursday, October 16th 10:00am – 11:00am in F002
  • Thursday, January 22nd 10:00am – 11:00am in F002
  • Thursday, March 26th 10:00am – 11:00am in N101
  • Thursday, May 21st 10:00am – 11:00am in N101

Employee Giving Campaign update

Congratulations to the winners of last week’s Employee Giving Campaign prizes:

Stop by: Pick up a donation form at the Educational Foundation office on the third floor of Fishburn Hall.

Payroll deduction: Go to http://virginiawestern.edu/foundation/giving/empgiving.php  and print out the donation form.

Remember, if you donate any amount, you’ll get a thank-you gift – a smart phone “wallet” that attaches to the back of your cell as a handy place to store an ID or credit card. The wallet comes with a Virginia Western logo.

Free “Roanoke Valley Reads Book” for VWCC Students

In celebration of Roanoke Valley Reads 2014, Brown Library and Student Activities are partnering to provide 30 free copies of Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet for current VWCC students. Book giveaway times are at 11:00am and 5:00pm on Thursday, September 18. The first 15 students who bring their student ID or class schedule to the top floor of Brown Library at or after the designated times and ask for the book will receive a free copy.

Faculty and staff --- We didn’t forget about you! Two copies of the book are on reserve now at the Circulation Desk and available for you to check out.

Roanoke Valley Reads is a community-wide reading experience that brings people together, promotes tolerance and understanding of differing points of view, and emphasizes the importance of literacy.
