As most of you are aware, the Virginia General Assembly was late adopting a state budget. The college only became aware of our funding for next fiscal year on June 23, 2014. As a result of the delay, the college’s internal budget process is similarly delayed. To carve out more time for our internal college process, 25% of the base operating budgets (same as last year’s allocation) will be loaded this week to allow spending in 2014 -2015 to continue; however, the college’s budget for the 2014 – 2015 budget year will not be finalized until on or around August 1st. At that time, you will receive information about the pending operating and personnel requests and your new budget for 2014 -2015.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly by email or phone. Your continued cooperation and patience is appreciated.
Cheryl C. Miller,
Vice President of Finance

All proceeds to go towards a VCCS Scholarship in memory of Carol Childress who worked on the VWCC campus for many years and was at Greenfield working for the VCCS Systems Office in Richmond until her sudden death in October 2013.
Carol received two associates degrees from VWCC and loved the community college system. Please help us as we honor her memory in this way.
Thank you to all of my Virginia Western family for your thoughts, prayers, emails, texts, Facebook posts, and the many other expressions of kindness that you have shared with Wes and I following his accident. I have often said that Virginia Western is a large place but a small family. I have been overwhelmed in a wonderful way with how true this is and in what a supportive family you are. Your thoughts and prayers have made a real difference in helping us to focus on the positive and help Wes move in leaps and bounds toward recovery. For that, we are truly grateful. Thank you!
Elizabeth, Wes and Ashley Wilmer
Please be aware that on July 7 & 8 (Monday and Tuesday respectively) we will be hosting the 2014 Junior Achievement / Roanoke City Schools Disaster Drill on campus. They will be holding a theoretical scenario which will consist of a 1985 Flood situation beginning at 9 a.m. and ending by 1:30p.m. We anticipate around 300 students over the two days (150 per day). The students will move between stations in 30 minute increments. Please be aware that in the days preceding the drill some of the support teams in the community may want to arrive and stage equipment in areas we have identified as reserved locations. Therefore, parking will be closed in lots 8, 11, and 15.
