Just in case you are wondering why the Campus Police officers are looking a bit scruffy and unshaven during November there is a good reason. Because nearly everyone has been touched by cancer in some way, the Campus Police Department has decided to show our support and make a difference by forming a team to support the American Cancer Society. We are the Virginia Western Campus Police Team ACS. Using the links on this page, you can join our fight against cancer by clicking to Join our Team or Donate. Today, there is more hope than ever for people facing cancer. We hope you will join us. Click here to view the TEAM page for Virginia Western Campus Police
My ENF 1 class and I are participating in the Roanoke Valley Reads Book Drive. Roanoke Valley Reads is conducting a book drive for new and used children's books to support Feeding Body & Mind, a program established in 2008 by David and Michelle Baldacci's Wish You Well Foundation and Feeding America. The program addresses the connection between literacy, poverty and hunger and has distributed more than 1 million new and used books through area food banks. If you'd like to contribute a new or gently used children's book as well, we would welcome your participation. Just drop off your donation at my office H116B before noon this Friday, November 15.
Ever wonder how well our students do when they transfer to four-year colleges? They do great! About three-fourths of them eventually complete a bachelor’s degree. This goes up to about 90% for those who earn more than 30 credits here prior to transfer. At most of the major colleges in our area, our transfers complete their bachelor’s degree at substantially higher rates than do overall transfers to the institution or the students who enter that college directly (non-transfer). For more details, see the Institutional Research page of the Virginia Western website.
