All you can bowl from 5pm to 8 pm

 

Family Bowling Night! Sign up for this fun, all you can bowl evening!

Event includes bowling, lane and shoe rental. Does not include any food or beverages. Participants must have their own transportation to the bowling alley. Limited number of spots available. Sign up with Student Activities to reserve your spot.

$5 deposit required at time of signup (refunded upon arrival to event).

Online Blackboard Training Webinars

The Blackboard Innovative Teaching Series (BITS) is a training initiative which offering a serial of training webinars. BITS is free to Blackboard users and is easy to participate. The program consists of weekly faculty training webinars that are taught by faculty from different schools and supported by Blackboard experts.

Here are some of the sample topics:

  • From the Beginning: Setting up Your Blackboard Learn Course, February 4th at 11am ET
  • Meet the Grade Center, February 11th at 1pm ET
  • The Rewards of Rubrics, February 18th at 2pm ET

Welcome to Our New Library Staff Members

We are excited to announce that two new Reference Assistants started at Brown Library this semester.

Marci Myers comes to us from the Bedford County Public Library System and received her M.L.S. degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

Rebecca Greer most recently worked at the architecture library at Virginia Tech and previously worked at Blacksburg City Public Libraries. She is a student in the graduate library science program at the University of Washington.

Both Marci and Rebecca will be working during our day hours. Please join us in welcoming them to Brown Library!

Computer Lab Closed

The Computer Open Lab in room M302 of the Business Science Building will be closed from 2 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, January 31. Students needing access to a computer may use the lab in the Learning Technology Center located in B17/B18 of Brown Library; please note the lab operating hours of 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

A Semester of Service- February Service Projects

'A Semester of Service' will provide students the opportunity to serve their community through group involvement that builds relationships, expands the mind and enriches the spirit. 

Each month the volunteer coordinator will coordinate one or two service project events, taking a small group of students to volunteer at the designated organization.  Service projects will typically be held on a weekday afternoon for one to three hours.  We will take a school vehicle and leave from campus. 

February Service Projects:

After school programs provide a positive place for kids throughout Roanoke.  Make a difference in your community by Participating in after school programs.   

Help a child read at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southwest Roanoke!

Nursing home residents often look forward to scheduled activities including card games, crafts and musical performances.  When volunteers visit, the residents receive extra one-on-one attention which can be rewarding for everyone involved.

Spend time with residents at the South Roanoke Nursing Home playing Uno!
