I-20 Requirements

All I-20 forms are filed with the INS on the Student & Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) electronic database.

  • The prospective student must apply to the college.
  • The student must submit documentation of the equivalent of an American high school diploma and official transcripts or all other records and courses taken from any colleges attended. All records must be translated into English and certified.
  • The student's proof of financial responsibility must be received, reviewed, and evaluated at Virginia Western Community College. Please see the cost estimate breakdown for an estimate of the funds needed for 2 years of attendance.

    The student may also use the Virginia Western Funds Verification form and the Virginia Western Statement of Financial Support form to verify this "Total Need" if they are already in this country.
  • The student must submit a TOEFL score of at least 500 (paper-based), 173 (computer-based), or 61 (internet-based). VWCC's code for reporting scores is 5868.
  • The student must be qualified and meet all standards for admission to Virginia Western and have been accepted for enrollment in a full-time course of study (12 hours or more each semester excluding summer).
  • All documents, verifications, test scores, and eligibility criteria must be received by Virginia Western 30-60 days prior to beginning classes for each semester the student plans on attending.
  • Health insurance is required for all F1 and M1 students entering Virginia Western. The student must carry health insurance for themselves and all dependents in F-2 status as a condition of enrollment.
  • F-1 students desiring school transfer eligibility from another college or university must have completed at least 1 term at that college pursing a full course of study.
