Scholarships Available for Fall

Scholarships Available Apply by May 17
The Virginia Western Educational Foundation has over $150,000 in scholarship funds available—based on academic excellence, financial need and specific programs—to help you reach your educational goals.  You don’t have to qualify for financial aid to receive Educational Foundation scholarships.
Deadline: 4:00 p.m., May 17, 2013
Requirements: Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0, high school graduate or have a GED, and be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credits at Virginia Western in Fall 2012.

Many scholarships have additional requirements, so it is important to read each scholarship description carefully when applying.

Summer Registration

Registration for summer classes begins on Friday, April 12. Advising and registration assistance will be available from 8:00 to 3:00 in the Business Science Building room 317 and Business Science building room 320. Students in General Studies, Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, Administration of Justice, Human Services, Communication Design or Early Childhood Education should go to room 317. All other program of studies should go to room 320. All academic advisors from Chapman Hall and some faculty advisors will be located in the Business Science rooms on Friday. Summer is a great time to take a couple of classes to get you closer to your degree!

Children’s Book Drive

You can make a difference in a child's life with your donation of one book!

The Volunteer Center is still collecting new or slightly used children's books to donate to TAP Head Start.  There are still copies of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom in the Campus Bookstore to purchase and donate.

If your club has been collecting books please count them and drop them off in the Volunteer Center, Thomas Center room 210, by Friday, April 12th.

Spring Graduates – Thank You Video

Do you want to tell your family and friends THANK YOU for their help and support during your journey to graduation? Participate in the Graduation Thank You Video that will be shown at the Salem Civic Center before and after Commencement on May 1oth.

Your opportunities to participate are:

  • Wednesday, April 10th - 4-5:30 p.m. in Webber Hall room 307
  • Friday, April 19th - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. during Spring Fling, Fishburn Hall, President's Conference Room on the first floor
  • Wednesday, April 24th 11 a.m to 1 p.m. during Cap & Gown Pick Up, Natural Science Center deck

Volunteer/Internship Opportunity!

The Feeding America Hunger Study will start next month- VOLUNTEER AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES are available! Volunteers are needed to help with the client survey by working in teams to visit assigned food distribution sites throughout Southwest Virginia to randomly select clients for a computer-based interview. Teams of 3 to 4 will be paired with a food pantry, shelter, or soup kitchen to conduct client interviews. This great opportunity allows volunteers to learn more about hunger in their community.

Feeding America Southwest VA is holding an Information Session today from 12-1 PM in the Natural Science Center.  If you are interested and can't make the information session you can pick up a FASWVA volunteer information form in the Volunteer Office, Thomas Center room 210 or email Lori Mier, lmier@virginiawestern.edu.

Ambassadors receive a $1,000 scholarship for serving fall and spring semesters. Ambassadors give campus tours, help with information tables and work Discover Orientation Sessions.
