Virginia Western Community College is proud to host the Telling Project Roanoke, a unique national stage performance featuring student veterans’ real stories. The performances are free and open to the public, but donations are appreciated and will be applied to the Virginia Western Veterans Assistance Fund. The performances contain theses of war and mature language, and aren’t suitable for young children.<\/p>\n

The Telling Project is a creation of playwright Jonathan Wei, who first put on the performance in Eugene, Ore. Each version of the Telling Project begins with interviews with veterans and their families, followed by scripting, performance training and production. Wei’s work has been staged nationally and his work has appeared in the Village Voice, the Iowa Review, and the North American Review. He has received support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Smithsonian Institute, the Library of Congress, Metabolic Studios and others.<\/p>\n
Performers share their real experiences from the armed services with audience members. The cast for the Telling Project Roanoke includes: Jim Atkins, U.S. Army veteran; Sarah Bonner, U.S. Air Force veteran; Holly Rindorf, wife of U.S. Army veteran; and Ronda Rocchio, U.S. Navy veteran.<\/p>\n
