{"id":2190,"date":"2019-11-25T10:14:51","date_gmt":"2019-11-25T15:14:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.virginiawestern.edu\/news\/?p=2190"},"modified":"2024-08-01T15:20:17","modified_gmt":"2024-08-01T19:20:17","slug":"fralin-futures-scholarship-recipients-tour-fralin-biomedical-research-institute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.virginiawestern.edu\/news\/2019\/11\/25\/fralin-futures-scholarship-recipients-tour-fralin-biomedical-research-institute\/","title":{"rendered":"Fralin Futures scholarship recipients tour Fralin Biomedical Research Institute"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Virginia Western Community College students who received the first-ever <a href=\"https:\/\/www.virginiawestern.edu\/fralinfutures\/\">Fralin Futures STEM-H Scholarship<\/a> were invited to tour the <a href=\"https:\/\/research.vtc.vt.edu\/\">Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC<\/a> on Nov. 22, 2019. Executive Director Dr. Michael J. Friedlander met with the students and described the Research Institute&#8217;s target areas and the varied jobs that will support the Roanoke facility as it expands in 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Research Institute doctoral students later met with the Fralin scholarship recipients and offered advice on transferring to four-year schools and pursuing doctoral degrees in research-oriented fields. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tour was one of several cohort activities scheduled in 2019-20 for the Fralin scholarship recipients. The scholarship is administered by the Virginia Western Community College Educational Foundation. Applications for the 2020 scholarship cycle will be available in March 2020 at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.virginiawestern.edu\/scholarships\">www.virginiawestern.edu\/scholarships<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped
