Virginia Western Community College invites the public to attend a special presentation by national academic coaching expert Dr. Jennifer Groh titled Values2<\/sup> – Personal Values and Adding Value in the Workplace. <\/em>The talk, which will have a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) focus, will be held at 4:30 p.m. on April 6 in Whitman Theater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Groh will share her personal and professional career tracks and the impact each has on the other. She describes how mentoring and academic success coaching affects students at the university and now how those strategies translate in her current role in business and industry. She also discusses from a personal and professional vantage point the barriers she has faced and how the mentors in her life were essential in navigating gender differences in negotiation, the value of taking risks and the imposter phenomenon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Groh holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology, has worked at Purdue University as Associate Director of the Women in Engineering Program and continues on the national board of the Women in Engineering ProActive Network (WEPAN), a non-profit organization which catalyzes change to enhance the success of women in engineering professions.  She currently holds the position of Talent Development and Organizational Effectiveness Consultant for Caterpillar, in Lafayette, Ind.  Groh is a certified Affiliate Coach with LifeBound, Inc. with a specialized focus in serving STEM populations through both individual coaching and facilitation of workshops on coaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
