You may not know this, but the brown marmorated stink bug is the unofficial mascot of Brown Library. Before the renovation, these destructive Asian natives were everywhere. We still get a few from time to time. Thank goodness Virginia Tech is on the case. Read or listen to this story from WVTF about how researchers are trying to even the score with yet another invasive species. Go Hokies!

I just discovered the Awful Library Books blog today, and I think it’s going to be a guilty pleasure. We remove books from our shelves, a process librarians call weeding, that are no longer helpful to Virginia Western students (the same thing happens with e-books and articles in databases). Time can make some of these titles seem very silly. Take a look at favorite weeded titles from librarians across the country.

The Virginia Western Educational Foundation has over $140,000 in scholarship funds available for academic excellence or financial need to help you reach your educational goals. You don’t have to receive federal financial aid to qualify for financial need scholarships.
