How to Connect to VWCCWifi with an Expired Password

Issue Scope:

When a laptop is off campus for an extended period of time, the user account password expires and must be changed on the user’s college account. The old password on the laptop then becomes out of sync with the password on the account. Upon return to campus the laptop wireless will not connect using the old password until the password is updated to match the current password.

Resolution Action:

You must connect to the college network to synchronize the new password to the laptop.

To correct this problem, follow this procedure: 

  1. Bring the laptop to campus to any location with wifi (any indoor area and some outdoor locations near emergency call boxes. You will see the network ID when in range)
  2. Power up the laptop
  3. Login with the old password and follow the steps below to manually connect to the wireless network

Jump Ahead Note: When you connect manually, enter you user ID in this format VW\vwyourid with your new password.

Log out and back in to sync passwords and get all your settings.

Detailed Connection Instructions

  1. Use the Windows Search at the lower right of your screen.

  2. Type “Settings” and then press Enter to search.
  3. In the Windows Settings screen, choose the Network & Internet option.

  4. Select Status.

  5. Scroll to Show Available Networks.

  6. Choose VWCCWifi.
  7. Enter your user ID in this format — VW\vwyourid — with your NEW password. Log out and back in to sync your passwords and get all your settings.

Update Your Computer

Don’t forget to check for Windows Updates! These are very important security updates which protect your computer.

  1. Use the Windows Search at the lower right of your screen.

  2. Type “Updates” and press Enter.
  3. Select the Check for Updates option.

  4. Apply your updates and restart. Note: If you are prompted to upgrade to Windows 11, do not update until you have direction and are comfortable with with using Windows 11.

Manage your Phone from the Web

To manage features such as speed dials (phone buttons), abbreviated dials (softkeys), or phone contacts you can access https://vwtss150.vw.edu/ccmuser/showHome.do (on-campus or with virtual desktop only). You will need to log in with your VWCC credentials.

Speed Dial Configuration

To create additional speed dials:

  1. Click the Phones tab.
  2. Click Phone Settings.
  3. Click Speed Dial Numbers.
  4. If your phones are linked, click Add New Speed Dial.
  5. If your phones are not linked, select the phone for which you want to add the speed dial number, then click Add New Speed Dial.
  6. Enter the number.
  7. Enter a label.
  8. Assign the speed dial number (1-199).
  9. Click Save.

Call Forwarding

  1. Click the Phones tab.
  2. In the left navigation pane, click Call Forwarding.
  3. Click the phone number on chick you want to set up forwarding.
  4. Check the Forward all calls to: check box.
  5. From the Forward calls to drop-down list box, enter the phone number you wish to forward calls to.
  6. Click Save.

To turn forwarding off, uncheck the Forward all calls to box and click Save.

Do Not Disturb

  1. Click the IM & Availability tab.
  2. Check the “Turn On” box under the Do Not Disturb section.
  3. Uncheck the box to turn DND off.

Phone Contacts

  1. Click the Phones tab across the top of the page.
  2. Click the Phone Settings tab.
  3. Click Create New Contact. The Add New Phone Contact window appears.
  4. Complete the fields with the contact information and click OK.

Ring Settings

To customize your shared line ringtones:

  1. Click the Phones tab across the top of the page.
  2. Click the Phone Settings tab.
  3. Select Ring Settings.
  4. Select the phone number and customize when I’m on a call and when I’m not on a call from the drop down arrow.
  5. Click Save.

Voicemail Notification Settings

  1. Click the Phones tab across the top of the page.
  2. Click the Phone Settings tab.
  3. Select Voicemail Notification Settings.
  4. Select the phone number and customize if you want message light ondisplay screen prompt, or play stutter tone when on a call.
  5. Click Save.
