VCCS Paul Lee grant applications due Feb. 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image wp-image-234 size-full\">\n<figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"639\" height=\"319\" src=\"https:\/\/www.virginiawestern.edu\/grants\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/04\/InstructionalTechnologyMiniConference.png\" alt=\"participants at the Instructional Technology Mini Conference\" class=\"wp-image-9056\" style=\"width:639px;height:319px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.virginiawestern.edu\/grants\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/04\/InstructionalTechnologyMiniConference.png 639w, https:\/\/www.virginiawestern.edu\/grants\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/04\/InstructionalTechnologyMiniConference-300x150.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 639px) 100vw, 639px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Pictured: The Instructional Technology Mini-Conference at Virginia Western in July 2016.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m hoping you&#8217;re as excited about professional development as these folks are, because the VCCS offers two types of professional development grants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Paul Lee Professional Development Grant, with a maximum stipend of $2,500 for the summer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Paul Lee Workshop Mini-Grant, with a maximum award of $1,500.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, I&#8217;ll spotlight the <strong>VCCS Paul Lee Workshop Mini-Grant<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Carrie Halpin, Virginia Western&#8217;s Instructional Designer and Technologist, has been awarded this workshop mini-grant for the past few years &#8230; they have funded her successful summer <strong>Instructional Technology Mini-Conferences<\/strong>, which she raved about in our YouTube video, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=maLeTFL5Yrc&amp;list=PLDMmkT9JmcjOsDZXwUyBV5dO8thYhNn-8&amp;index=7\">7 Ways Grants Have Transformed Virginia Western.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant pays up to $1,500 to host a workshop that must involve at least two or more VCCS colleges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next deadline is <strong>Feb. 1<\/strong> for projects proposed for the 2018 summer semester.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The VCCS suggests the following topics to get your ideas percolating:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Innovations in technology, professional activities, and shifting community college roles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Future directions for the community college<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Articulation with public schools and 4-year colleges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International education<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mentoring part-time employees<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Student development, assessment, or retention<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete 2021-related topics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New relationships between and among community college employees<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Time management\/stress management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promoting pleasant, positive work environments<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Motivational topics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dealing with change<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other topics that meet discipline, instruction, career, or organization needs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Some FAQs from the VCCS:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>What distinguishes a workshop mini-grant from a professional development grant?<br><br><\/strong>Mini-grants are awarded for day conferences, in-service activities and workshops. Funds are allocated to conduct a meeting, not attend one. Those conducting mini-grant workshops are not eligible for honorariums.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Who is eligible to submit a mini-grant application?<br><br><\/strong>All VCCS employees, including adjunct faculty and classified staff, are eligible to submit a mini-grant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>What activities associated with mini-grants are eligible for funding?<br><br><\/strong>Mini-grants may be used for all of the following: one or more speakers from outside the VCCS; travel costs for speakers within the VCCS; food and beverage at per diem rates for attendees; and the cost of handouts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Which budgetary items will not be funded?<br><br><\/strong>Speakers actively engaged in the sale of a product and speakers from within the VCCS are not eligible for compensation, and services not connected with an approved budget activity.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Also not allowed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Purchasing classroom, student or software supplies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Funding student activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Licensures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Workgroup meetings normally supported by colleges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gifts, entertainment and alcoholic beverages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>More information<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To review the online application and learn more about these grants at https:\/\/opd.vccs.edu\/awards\/grants\/<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grants office would be happy to talk through you ideas.
