A grant is financial aid for which neither work nor repayment is required. Virginia Western Community College participates in several need-based federal- and state- funded grant programs.
In addition to financial need, a student must also satisfy numerous other eligibility criteria. The type(s) and amount(s) of financial aid are also influenced by the student's enrollment status. The following is a list of federal-funded grant programs available at VWCC.
For the 2013-14 award year (July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2014), the maximum scheduled Pell Grant award is $5,645 for undergraduate students enrolled on a full-time basis.
The maximum amount can change each award year and depends on program funding. The amount you get, though, will depend not only on your financial need, but also on your costs to attend school, your status as a full-time or part-time student, and your plans to attend school for a full academic year or less.
Priority is given to Pell Grant recipients with the greatest remaining need. A student must be enrolled in at least 6 credits to be eligible for this grant. Amounts not used for tuition and fees may be used to purchase books. Any remaining amounts will be refunded to you.
