Dear Faculty and Staff,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday, September 25, 2026, Virginia Western Community College will celebrate an important milestone in its history with the investiture of its fifth president. I warmly invite you to join me for this special occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While an investiture formally marks the installation of a president, it is ultimately a celebration of an institution and the people who bring its mission to life every day. I hope you will join me as we celebrate Virginia Western, reflect on all we have accomplished together, and look ahead to the opportunities before us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To encourage broad participation, the College will operate under a slimmed staffing model allowing employees to step away from their regular work responsibilities to participate in the ceremony. I ask supervisors to work collaboratively with their teams to make every effort to support employee participation while maintaining the essential services our students and visitors rely upon. With thoughtful planning, I am confident we can both continue serving our community and come together to celebrate this meaningful milestone in the life of our College. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would also like to extend a special invitation to our faculty to participate in the academic processional. Faculty presence in academic regalia is one of the most visible and cherished traditions of an investiture ceremony, symbolizing the academic excellence and dedication that define Virginia Western. I sincerely hope as many faculty members as possible will join the processional to represent the strength, traditions, and future of our academic community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investiture ceremony will take place at 10 am at The Jefferson Center, with volunteer opportunities and the faculty line-up beginning earlier that morning, at 8 am and 9 am, respectively. Please visit the faculty and staff inauguration page<\/a> on our website for additional details about the morning’s schedule, parking and transportation information, and regalia requirements.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faculty members who wish to participate and whose teaching schedules conflict with the ceremony are encouraged to work with their dean in advance to determine whether appropriate arrangements can be made, including the provision of a meaningful alternative learning activity for students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also encourage you to take a few moments to share with your students the significance of the investiture ceremony and the important role faculty play in this longstanding academic tradition. It is my hope that, where appropriate arrangements can be made, many of you will be able to join the processional and help celebrate this meaningful milestone in the life of our College. Please take a moment to complete the Faculty Processional Form<\/a> by August 19 to let us know if you will or will not be attending.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are vital event staff roles for administrative faculty and classified staff who also wish to serve at the investiture ceremony. For information about those opportunities, please visit the faculty and staff inauguration page<\/a> on our website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
