{"id":54274,"date":"2025-02-18T12:18:30","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T17:18:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.virginiawestern.edu\/bulletin\/?p=54274"},"modified":"2025-07-16T15:22:41","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T19:22:41","slug":"new-virginia-policy-concerning-deepseek-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.virginiawestern.edu\/bulletin\/2025\/02\/18\/new-virginia-policy-concerning-deepseek-ai\/","title":{"rendered":"New Virginia Policy Concerning DeepSeek AI"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>There are new and important IT changes that have been implemented in response to the Virginia Governor&#8217;s Executive Order 46, <em>which bans the use of DeepSeek AI on state devices and state-run networks.<\/em> This order is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the security and safety of our IT infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What is Changing?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Effective immediately, the following changes have been implemented:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The DeepSeek AI application has been blocked from all VCCS-connected devices and networks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to DeepSeek AI websites has been restricted across our network.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why is This Change Necessary?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Governor Glenn Youngkin&#8217;s Executive Order 46 mandates these changes to protect the security and privacy of our institutional and personal data and to protect against foreign national cybersecurity threats.
