Virgina Employee Public Service Week Celebration – Today!

Every May, state agencies across Virginia will celebrate the hard work and dedication state employees provide to the Commonwealth of Virginia through a recognition event in honor of Virginia Employee Public Service Week.

Due to the operational challenges that Virginia Western faces during the traditional recognition period, the college will be celebrating Virginia Employee Public Service Week on Wednesday, April 17, 2013:

Virginia Employee Public Service Week Celebration

Natural Science Center

1:30 – 3:30 p.m.

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

Ice cream will be provided by the Homestead Creamery truck just outside of the Natural Science Center.   Be sure to bring your employee badge and sign-in at that time to receive your treat!

For your additional pleasure, an assortment of games will be available within the Natural Science Center!

  • Cake Walk (4 times:  1:30, 2:00, 2:30, and 3:00) – play the game for your opportunity to win a yummy cake!
  • Jelly Bean Guessing Game   Be the employee to guess the closest amount of jelly beans in the jar and win the jar of candy!
  • Name that Baby  Identify your co-workers as children.  The employee that guesses the most correct responses is a genius and will have their name displayed as the winner adjacent to the Wall of Fame!  Do you want your baby picture displayed for this game?  Send it to Human Resources not later than April 12th – be sure to include a note with your name on it to identify yourself!
  • Corn Hole
  • Jinga (giant tumbling towers)

Employees will also have the opportunity to recognize a work-related accomplishment or noteworthy action of a co-worker on a paper brick wall for the college’s Wall of Fame.  The Wall of Fame will be displayed during the traditional Virginia Employee Public Service Week (TBA). Three (3) employees will be awarded a recognition gift based on the recognition action (brick) completed by your peer.

Thank you for making a difference!

A special thank you is extended to Carlton Mabe and Tara Nepper for their contributions to this event, and also to the dedicated members of the Employee Recognition Committee!

The Hail Mary in Humanities!!

Your Faculty/Staff All-Stars defeated the Virginia Western Athletic All-Stars 98-93 last Friday evening.  The team was down 40-46 at halftime, but great 2nd half defense and rebounding from Anthony Billups and Justin Martin from Mathematics brought the All-Stars back.  Ray Bare, Men's Basketball Head Coach, helped the team comeback with 28 points.  With only 3 seconds left in the game and down 5 points, Cory Bapst (Media Geeks) hit a 32 foot 10-point basket to win the game at the buzzer!   Your Faculty/Staff All-Stars were:

Nick Owens - Student Activities

Ray "Big Swish Daddy" Bare - Men's Basketball

Anthony "A Train" Billups - Mathematics

Corey "The Truth" Bapst - Media Geeks

Shane Sawyer - Geology

Takisha "Queen B" Basham - Women's Basketball

Justin Allen - Mathematics

Chris "Twinkle Toes" Pender - Licensure, Credentialing, & Intensive Training

If you see any of the team members, tell them great job, we are all still a little sore.
