ProgramsAccess ESL and College Preparation (AECP)This intensive English program is designed to provide international and English as a Second Language (ESL) students with the necessary academic English and study skills to take the TOEFL and/or Compass exam and succeed in college classes. Classes provide students plenty of opportunity to speak English. Students learn English listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar and pronunciation skills. In addition, the program includes a unique and specialized program that teaches valuable study skills to help students understand what is expected in U.S. college classes so they can achieve their best results. Students can also become an active member of the Virginia Western campus and enjoy life in Roanoke. Career Switcher Program of Virginia Community CollegesWant to teach in Virginia? CDL TrainingWe look forward to your participation in our CDL training, a pathway for you to increase your marketable skills and successfully compete for jobs in the trucking industry. Intensive Welder Training ProgramDeveloped by and for area employers, this program includes college credit courses in math, blueprint reading, drafting and welding. Students will also complete an internship with a local company. The program is lab oriented, with small classes where students can obtain the help they need to be successful. Pharmacy TechnicianUpon successful completion graduates will be eligible to apply for registration as a Pharmacy Technician in Virginia and be prepared to take the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) exam. Security ClassesThe classes have been approved by the Department of Criminal Justice and meet the requirements of Private Security Employers. Tradesman Licensure RenewalThe VA Board of Contractors requires journeymen, master plumbers, electrcians, HVAC mechanics and gas fitters to take continuing education hours specific to their trade as part of the licensing process. Those renewing a license must take continuing education in their respective profession:

Water & Wastewater Technology ProgramThe Water and Wastewater Technology career studies certificate program is designed to prepare students to become a water or waste water plant operator in municipal and industrial treatment facilities and laboratories. VWCC Quick Connect ProgramVWCC Quick Connect is an 8-week evening intensive training program that prepares students for entry-level positions with Roanoke-area manufacturing and industry. It is an initiative of Virginia Western Community College and is guided and supported by Virginia Western's Applied Technology Coalition. |
