Beginner's Dog Obedience LLRN 2800

Basic SLR Photography (PHTG 2200 G1)

This is a series of six classes designed to help the beginning photographer learn how to effectively operate their cameras and take better pictures. The class will teach participants how to maximize their camera’s potential with instruction on basic settings; lighting; and composition. Any digital camera with manual capabilities is welcome however a 35mm Digital SLR (with at least one interchangeable lens) is preferred. Must provide own camera (user manual is also helpful).  To register please call the Greenfield Center at 966-3984. Intermediate Digital Photography PHTG 2204

A popular follow up to the Basic SLR Digital Photography Class, this class will cover some exciting topics including the principles of composition and how you can use those principles to create better images. Also offered will be sessions on night, and low-light photography instruction. A portion of the course will be devoted to an introduction to the digital darkroom and you will be introduced to some basic principles of cataloging and post-processing of your images with easily available and easy to use basic software.

Any digital camera with manual capabilities is welcome; however, a 35 mm Digital SLR (with at least one interchangeable lens) is preferred. Must provide own camera. For more information, please call the Greenfield Center at 966-3984.

Introduction to Adobe Lightroom Software for Photographers PHTG 2205

Learn the basics about what is fast becoming the Low cost, Photo-Editing and Organization software tool of choice for most photographers. Students will learn how to import, organize, and non-destructively edit all of their digital photos as they become acquainted with the details of each of Lightroom's five separate modules.

Students need to have an understanding of Basic Photography, and a laptop running Windows Vista, 7, or XP with available storage space and at least 3GB RAM and 1GB available hard-disk space. Instructions will be given during the first class on how to download the free version for use during the class without any commitment to buy. Students will need to bring a laptop to class. Introduction to Photoshop Basics

This six-week class will provide you with the basic concepts and skills to use Adobe Photoshop effectively. You will learn layer basics, photo retouching and image editing. Whether you are a designer, illustrator, photographer, video artist, webmaster, or just a beginner, Photoshop offers you many opportunities to make your images look great. Class taught by professional graphic designer, John Adams. Class not intended for Photoshop Elements. Classroom laptops not recommended as the class is lecture based and handouts will be given to students. The class cost $90 and is held at the Greenfield Education and Training Center in Daleville. Photoshop Intermediate

This six-week class is intended for individuals with a firm grasp of Photoshop Basics. Topics covered will include: typographic design, advanced layering, advanced compositing, preparing files for the web, producing and printing consistent color, and tools and palette review. Class taught by professional graphic designer, John Adams. Class not intended for Photoshop Elements. Classroom laptops not recommended as the class is lecture based and handouts will be given to students. The class cost $90 and is held at the Greenfield Education and Training Center in Daleville. Digital Photography Basic Portrait (PHTG 2203)

This is a series of six classes that will cover the use of 35mm digital cameras in portrait photography, including lenses, and a variety of strobe and light modification equipment. Students will gain an understanding of lighting patterns and learn about the quality of light and lighting ratios for work in the studio and on location. Students will also learn to incorporate styling and composition in their photographs and how to establish a comfortable rapport with subjects. The emphasis throughout the class will be to develop each photographer's personal vision and style. Students must provide own camera and have a good working understanding of their cameras and equipment. To register please call the Greenfield Center at 966-3984. Imagining the Virginia Frontier: Collecting Stories for our Grandchildren

A survey of Virginia history designed for scholars, history buffs, teachers, or anyone trying to promote the region's cultural heritage. Ellen Brown, local historian, will be basing her classes on a broad selection of sources, including novels, court records, journals, Ancestry.com, and the best (and worst) of scholarly writing. It should stir your imagination! The class cost $60 and is held at the Greenfield Education and Training Center in Daleville. Class Dates: Tuesdays 10:00am – 11:00am (June 6 – July 18, 2012). Self Defense

This introductory self-defense class will teach skills and methods of protecting oneself in case of a physical confrontation. You will learn punches, kicks, and how to get out of specific grabs and holds in this two-night course. No take down are included in this introductory course. The class is taught by Jill Shartzer, a first degree black belt in American Freestyle Karate. Jill has taught self-defense for over eleven years. The class cost $35 and is held at the Greenfield Education and Training Center in Daleville. Social Media Basics

This class will cover some of the popular social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Linked In and Google +. You will learn how to set up a profile, navigate the sites, post updates and media. Drawing 1

Learn the basics for being able to draw anything you want by teaching your eyes and drawing hand to work together. Students will learn the basics of right brain drawing and improve their skill level no matter where they are at. Students are responsible for their own supplies. The class cost $80 and is held at the Greenfield Education and Training Center in Daleville. Class Dates: June 12, 14, 19, 21, & 26 (6:30 – 8:30). After learning the basics of drawing (Drawing 1 recommended), this course will learn about perspective and shading. Students are responsible for their own supplies. Painting 1

Learn how to mix colors and application techniques for painting. Students will take an idea from a thumbnail to a completed painting. Students are responsible for their own supplies.
