OVERRULED and PRESS CUTTINGS
(2 one-act comedies)
by George Bernard Shaw
Adapted & Directed by Ted Mills
Considered by many the greatest wit and satirist of the twentieth century theatre, George Bernard Shaw found few subjects he could resist writing about. These two one-act plays stand as examples of his unflinching repertoire. In Overruled he questions the wisdom of trying to maintain absolute propriety in marriage. Two young couples caught in a web of extramarital intrigue are forced to consider what constitutes real fidelity between husband and wife. While in Press Cuttings, he ridicules the notion that men are superior to women or that their firm hold on the reigns to power is anything but a fraud. As Suffragettes overrun central London, all men with common sense are looking for cover. This is great comic fun with ideas that are as relevant today as they were a century ago.
These plays will run for five performances on Friday and Saturday, April 2, 3, 9, & 10 at 8 PM; and Sunday, April 11, a matinee beginning at 2 PM. Whitman Auditorium is located at the corner of Colonial Avenue and McNeil Road. The production is offered free of charge to the public, but donations are welcomed at the door.
