Administrative Support Technology Associate in Applied Science
Purpose
To prepare persons for full-time employment upon completion of the community college program. Individuals who are seeking initial employment in an office position and those who are seeking promotion may benefit from this curriculum.
Occupational Objectives
Administrative assistant, legal administrative assistant, medical administrative assistant, word processor, or related office occupations.
Curriculum Admissions Guidelines
Minimum of two units of high school mathematics, one of which must be algebra or the equivalent, and proficiency in high school English. Developmental courses may be recommended for students with deficiencies in English or mathematics.
Essential Functions
To successfully complete each keyboarding class, the student must be able to type without watching his or her hands while meeting the minimum speed and accuracy requirements.

Notes:
- Prerequisite for AST 102: AST 101 or minimum 35 wpm on Keyboarding Proficiency Test.
- Two credits of health (HLT) or physical education (PED) are required of all students. Consult approved health courses in the Description of Courses for selection. Veterans with an honorable discharge will be awarded HLT/PED credit based on military service.
- Humanities/Fine Arts elective must be chosen from the "Approved List of Humanities Transfer Courses " in the College catalog

While taking courses at Virginia Western Community College, you will be able to participate in International Association of Administrative Professionals, IAAP.
IAAP is a co-curricular organization that will provide a variety of professional development opportunities.
