Activities

funding, SPONSORships, Summer camp!

  1. Consortia schools allocated $1000.  Funding utilized by the local secondary schools for curriculum enhance-ment, books, software, equipment and/or activities related to career pathways within the grant.
    • Underwrote the Career Fair @ Central Academy to present career pathways and educational information to middle school students.
    • Purchased software related to the AST and IST Career Pathways which included AssessPrep CIW v5 Foundations, MS Office 2003 Pro, and Corel Draw for Craig County High School.
    • Sponsorship of CTE In-Service, the Virginia Workplace Readiness Skills Curriculum Development Workshop.
    • Underwrote the Salem High School and Culinary Arts Field trip to Washington, DC.
  2. Professional Development Seminars.
    • “Developing Tech Prep Career Pathways” for approximately 25 Roanoke City Public School CTE teachers and 15 VWCC Professors and Administrators.
    • "Secondary Educators Professional Development Kuder Training" for approximately 25 Roanoke City Public School teachers and guidance counselors.
  3. Professional Presentations.
    • Local seminar - “ABCs of Tech Prep" to various high school students during Future Business Leaders Association (FBLA) Regional Competition.
    • State seminar - "Tech Prep Career Pathways and Career Coaching Programs" at the 2006 Virginia Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Annual Convention.
    • National seminar - "Tech Prep Career Pathways and Career Coaching Programs" at the 2007 National Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) Conference in Las Vegas, NV.
  4. Tech Prep Career Pathways Summer Camp. This FREE two-day camp gives rising 8th grade middle school students the chance to experience hands-on technology and explore a variety of career opportunities in a college setting.
    • Students rotate through various sessions, including Robotics, economic success, budgeting and personal finance, career assessment and development activities, and use Global Positioning System (GPS) units for scavenger hunts.
    • 3rd Annual Summer Camp is scheduled for July 10 & 11, 2008!
