Honors Societies

Virginia Western supports the following Honors Societies that encourage students to pursue academic excellence, leadership and service. Each organization has its own set of membership criteria. Please see the advisor for more information about membership.

Lambda Nu

Lambda Nu (LN) is a national honor society for the radiologic and imaging sciences. Its objectives are to foster academic scholarship at the highest academic levels, promote research and investigation in the radiologic and imaging sciences, and recognize exemplary scholarship.

Phi Theta Kappa

Phi Theta Kappa's mission is to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students. The organization also provides opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming.

Students are invited into membership near the beginning of the Fall and Spring semesters. The requirements to receive an invitation are: completion of 12 credits at Virginia Western (credit level courses), 3.5 cumulative GPA (minimum) and enrollment in a degree program.

Psi Beta

Psi Beta is a national honors society for students in two-year colleges. Promotes excellence among psychology students in scholarship, leadership, research and community service.

Members must have an interest in psychology, an overall GPA of 3.25 (at least a 3.0 overall GPA in all psychology courses), completed 12 credit hours, and have completed one psychology course. Members must have a good standing in the community. Induction takes place in the Spring semester.

SALUTE

National Honor Society for veterans and active duty military students. SALUTE stands for "Service, Academics, Leadership, Unity, Tribute, Excellence". Students must have completed at least 12 credits with a GPA of at least 3.0.
