Forbidden City Exhibit at VMFA in Richmond!

Experience Imperial China through Art:

Drawn from the collection of the Palace Museum in Beijing, Forbidden City will offer visitors a unique journey through a palace once forbidden to the general public, and provide a glimpse into this hidden world through rich and diverse objects from the Ming (1368–1644) and Qing (1644–1911) dynasties. Featured works include large portraits, costumes, furniture, court paintings, religious sculptures, and fine decorative arts such as bronzes, lacquer ware, and jade. This exhibition explores the significant roles of imperial rituals, court painting, imperial family life, and religion in the Forbidden City.

2014 Great SouthEast ShakeOut

The Great SouthEast ShakeOut is a multi-state earthquake drill spanning much of the southeastern United States. ShakeOut activities for Virginia are supported by Virginia Department of Emergency Management.   Please take a moment on 10/16/2014 at 10:16 AM to practice or familiarize yourself with the college's shelter in place locations and evacuation plans.  Remember, you cannot tell from the initial shaking if an earthquake will suddenly become intense…so always Drop, Cover, and Hold On immediately!

  • DROP to the ground (before the earthquake drops you!);
  • COVER your head and neck with your arms and seek shelter by getting under a sturdy desk or table if nearby; and
  • HOLD ON to your shelter and be ready to move with it until the shaking stops.

For more information please visit; http://www.shakeout.org/southeast/index.html
