Join the JDRF Walk!

Join the Virginia Western team in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes at the Taubman Museum at noon on Sunday, September 28th. Our team goal is $1500 and we need your help to make that happen!

Together, we will turn Type One into Type None. Contact Josh Meyer or Tara Nepper (tnepper@virginiawestern.edu) to sign up or donate to our team: http://www2.jdrf.org/site/TR?team_id=159222&pg=team&fr_id=3930

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas loses the ability to produce insulin — a hormone essential to turning food into energy. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle. It requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.

With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure. That's why JDRF holds more than 200 Walks across the country every year to raise money for JDRF — the only global organization with a strategic research plan to end T1D.

The JDRF Walk has raised more than $1 billion through the hard work and generosity of supporters like you. Every dollar JDRF directs toward research comes from our donors. So, the more our walkers raise, the closer we get to reaching our goal of a world without T1D.

Smoking Areas

The College’s Clean Air Policy currently prohibits smoking in all areas of the south campus except in the designated shelter located adjacent to Humanities in Lot 1E.  The South Campus is described as any area between Colonial Avenue and State Route 220.  This includes Webber, Chapman, Craig and Duncan Halls the Natural Science Center, Arboretum, Greenhouse, Humanities Building and the Thomas Center.  This also includes all parking lots, sidewalks and common areas.

Smoking on the North side of campus is limited to outside areas that are at least 25 feet from any building entrance.

The discarding of cigarette butts on the ground as litter on campus may subject the person to a criminal fine for littering.

Brown Library Welcomes You!

Brown Library welcomes all students, faculty, and staff back to campus. We invite everyone to visit our building and take advantage of the resources and services.

Library Services are on the top level (2nd floor) of the library building. This floor is a “quiet floor” that is the perfect peaceful location for reading and quiet study. Five comfortable study rooms are available for currently-enrolled students to use. Traditional print resources (books, magazines, newspapers, and journals) are also available on this floor, along with access to library databases and other electronic resources and guides. Our Circulation and Reference staff members look forward to serving you.

The Academic Link occupies the main level (1st floor) of the library building. This floor, known as the Link Learning Commons, is home to VWCC’s tutoring/academic success programs such as one-on-one and group tutoring programs and the walk-in Math Center. Computers and study rooms are available for collaborative active learning. The Link Learning Commons is a comfortable and invigorating place to study, learn, and work.

The Ground Floor (GF) of the library building hosts the Testing Center, the walk-in Writing Center, and the Link Lab in room B17. The Testing Center administers the Virginia Placement Test (VPT) for English & math, as well as make-up tests, and proctored exams for all asynchronous distance learning courses. The Writing Center provides assistance with papers for any class. The Link Lab-B17 computers are available for student use.
