Constitution Day Events

September 17th, Constitution Day!

Join the Student Activities Department for an afternoon with Patrick Henry and James Madison as they argue the ratification of the US Constitution. The debate starts at 12:15 on Sept. 17th  in the Student Life Center, 3rd Floor, and stick around after the debate is over to take a selfie with two of the most well known Virginians in history.

We will also be providing decorative cupcakes for students during the debate and in the food court after the debate is over.

Support JDRF

If you would like to support the Virginia Western JDRF team you can send donations to any of our team captains: Amy Balzer (abalzer@virginiawestern.edu), Becky Chauncey (bchauncey@virginiawestern.edu), Josh Meyer (jmeyer@virginiawestern.edu), or Tara Nepper (tnepper@virginiawestern.edu). Upcoming fundraisers will be posted in the Student Bulletin.

Join the Virginia Western team in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes at the Taubman Museum at noon on Sunday, September 28th. Our team goal is $1500 and we need your help to make that happen!

Together, we will turn Type One into Type None. Contact Josh Meyer or Tara Nepper (tnepper@virginiawestern.edu) to sign up or donate to our team: http://www2.jdrf.org/site/TR?team_id=159222&pg=team&fr_id=3930

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas loses the ability to produce insulin — a hormone essential to turning food into energy. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet and lifestyle. It requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on injected insulin.

With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure. That's why JDRF holds more than 200 Walks across the country every year to raise money for JDRF — the only global organization with a strategic research plan to end T1D.

The JDRF Walk has raised more than $1 billion through the hard work and generosity of supporters like you. Every dollar JDRF directs toward research comes from our donors. So, the more our walkers raise, the closer we get to reaching our goal of a world without T1D.
