TIP #2 - You can access the library’s databases from home.

Our library databases contain thousands of newspaper, magazine, and journal articles. Information that you can trust! You can access this information while using a computer in the library or in another location on campus. You can also access this information from home by entering your user name and password --- the same user name and password that you use for MyVWCC. Check out the databases that are available to you: http://virginiawestern.edu/library/databases.php

Library Contest!

Students, faculty, and staff --- Enter the library’s “How Many Books?” contest. Guess how many books in print are in the Circulating collection on the top floor of the Brown Library Building. The student and the faculty/staff member who makes the closest guess (without going over the actual number of books) will win a prize! Go to the top floor of the library and look at the Circulating collection; then submit a contest entry form at either the Reference Desk or Circulation Desk. The contest runs April 15 through April 19, 4:00pm. Winners will be notified on Monday, April 21.

Smoking Areas

The College’s Clean Air Policy currently prohibits smoking in all areas of the south campus except in the designated shelter located adjacent to Humanities in Lot 1E.  The South Campus is described as any area between Colonial Avenue and State Route 220.  This includes Webber, Chapman, Craig and Duncan Halls the Natural Science Center, Arboretum, Greenhouse, Humanities Building and the Thomas Center.  This also includes all parking lots, sidewalks and common areas.

Smoking on the North side of campus is limited to outside areas that are at least 25 feet from any building entrance.

The discarding of cigarette butts on the ground as litter on campus may subject the person to a criminal fine for littering.

Earth Day Work Day at Mill Mountain

Roanoke City Parks and Rec’s Outdoor Recreation has invited Virginia Western to participate in the Earth Day Work Day on Tuesday, April 22 on the Mill Mountain Trails in Roanoke.

They are looking for people that are interested in giving back on Earth Day to our local trail system by picking up trash, fixing muddy spots, blazing trees, closing a cut off switchback, and fixing some erosion spots. There is no experience necessary as they  will have experienced crew leaders on hand to guide participants.

Lunch is included and the workday starts at 9:00am and will run until 1:00pm. After lunch, the city parks staff will lead a guided hike or guided mountain biking trip on the Mill Mountain trails after lunch (need to have own bike).

Contact Renee Lavin if you are interested in at renee.lavin@roanokeva.gov or 853-5867.
