Win Cash – Roanoke Prevention Alliance Survey

Win Cash - Roanoke Prevention Alliance Survey

The Roanoke Prevention Alliance (RPA) is implementing a Young Adult Drinking Behaviors Survey focused on 18 to 24 year olds that live in Roanoke City.  The purpose of the survey is to identify ways to reduce alcohol related motor vehicle crashes.

The RPA is asking you to help by completing this very short survey.  If you are one of the first 250 people to complete the survey you will get a $5 gift card from either Sheetz or Kroger.  The survey link is:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/YASRoanokeCity REMEMBER: Ages 18 – 24 and Roanoke City Residents only.

This survey is completely anonymous and in no way can responses be tracked back to the person taking the survey.  At the completion of the survey respondents will click on an external link to keep responses anonymous and to complete the registration form so the gift card can be mailed.  Thank you for your willingness to help the Roanoke Prevention Alliance reach its goal of reducing alcohol related motor vehicle crashes in Roanoke City.

Toys for Tots Donations

The Armed Forces Student Association is sponsoring the Toys for Tots donation boxes across campus. Help brighten a child's Christmas today by donating new, unwrapped toys. The donation boxes are in W305, the second  floor of the Fralin Center and in Humanities by the gym. The drive ends on 12/8/13 so take a few minutes to help make this holiday season even better for a child in need.

Changes in Brown Library Building

“Ch–Ch–Ch–Ch-Changes” is the chorus from the popular 1971 song, “Changes” by David Bowie.  “Ch–Ch–Ch–Ch–Changes” also describes what’s going on in the Brown Library building.

Library Services Have Moved!

All library services for Virginia Western students have moved to a spacious new dwelling on the top level (2nd floor) of the library building.  This floor has been designated as a “quiet floor” and is the perfect peaceful location for reading and quiet study. Five comfortable study rooms are available for currently-enrolled students to use. Traditional print resources (books, magazines, newspapers and journals) are also available on this floor, along with access to library databases, other electronic resources and guidelines for creating source citations.  The Library’s circulation and reference desks are also now located on the top floor.

The Academic Link Has also Moved!

What? You didn’t know we had an Academic Link? We do. Since the beginning of the fall semester, The Academic Link has been the name of VWCC’s tutoring/academic success programs. The one-on-one/group tutoring programs, academic skills coaching and the Math Center have moved up from the ground floor of the library building to the main level (1st floor), now to be known as the Link Learning Commons.

With this move many things will stay the same. The computers are still open to all, the study rooms and classroom can still be reserved, the Academic Link staff (like the library staff) will still help anyone with questions, and the good old WEPA machines will still print for anyone with an account or a card. The biggest change, in fact, may be that the Link Learning Commons will be a place for collaborative active learning.  With tutors working with students, small study groups meeting and our very active Math Center, the main floor of Brown Library may not be the same quiet study space many have come to know.  However we hope that students, faculty and staff will find the Link Learning Commons to be a comfortable and invigorating place to study, learn and work.

Whether you need a quiet place to study, help with a research project, the answer to a basic technology question, a place to meet with a study group, or a tutor to help you ace that class, the Academic Link staff and the library’s Reference and Circulation staff are here to help you out. Come see us soon!

Spring 2014 Tuition Payment Plan – Sign Up TODAY!

To help meet educational expenses, Virginia Western Community College is pleased to participate in Nelnet’s tuition payment plan.  For a non-refundable fee of $25.00, Nelnet allows monthly, interest-free tuition payments. The earlier students enroll the more payment options they may have. The payment plan for Spring 2013 will begin on November 11, 2013.

If a payment plan is not established or if tuition is not paid by December 5, 2013 students who registered early for classes will be dropped and will need to repeat the registration process. Financial Aid students are protected from enrollment cancellation up to the amount of their Financial Aid award. Financial Aid students should pay any differences between their total award and the amount due to prevent enrollment cancellation.

Payment plan sign-up instructions and deadlines will be posted on the Student Bulletin, Facebook, Twitter, www.virginiawestern.edu and on the VWtvs located across campus.

Step by step directions on how to enroll in a payment plan are available at http://www.virginiawestern.edu/studenthelp/student/tuitionpaymentplan.php

No Shave November

Hello,
Just in case you are wondering why the Campus Police officers are looking a bit scruffy and unshaven during November there is a good reason. Because nearly everyone has been touched by cancer in some way, the Campus Police Department has decided to show our support and make a difference by forming a team to support the American Cancer Society. We are the Virginia Western Campus Police Team ACS. Using the links on this page, you can join our fight against cancer by clicking to Join our Team or Donate. Today, there is more hope than ever for people facing cancer. We hope you will join us.  Click here to view the TEAM page for Virginia Western Campus Police
