Free Movie Tuesday, 2pm: Islamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World

Don't miss the Bridging Cultures Film Series!

  • 10/8, 2pm, Whitman TheaterIslamic Art: Mirror of the Invisible World (2011)
    • Explores the richness of Islamic art in objects big and small, from great ornamented palaces and the play of light in monumental mosques to the exquisite beauty of ceramics, carved boxes, paintings, calligraphy, and metal work.
  • 10/22, 2pm, Whitman TheaterPersepolis (2007)
    • Poignant coming-of-age story of a precocious and outspoken young Iranian girl that begins during the Islamic Revolution.
  • 11/5, 2pm, Whitman TheaterKoran by Heart: Once Chance to Remember (2011)
    • Captures the drama of the annual International Holy Koran Competition, following three extraordinary ten year olds who have dedicated their lives to honoring their families, countries, and culture through memorization of the religious text.

These films are part of the Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys award granted to Brown Library by the NEH. They are available to be checked out on a reserve basis from the Circulation desk on the top floor of the library.

Registration Instructions:

  1. GO TO VWCC HOME PAGE   www.virginiawestern.edu.
  2. Click on Hall Career Center (Top and Center of homepage).
  3. On the left side click JOB BANK.
  4. Click on STUDENT/ALUMNI.
  5. Click on REGISTER.
  6. Fill in template (starred fields are required; use your school email address in the primary email field).
  7. Click SUBMIT. An email verification link will be sent to the primary email.
  8. Log in to your email and follow the link verify your account and set a password.
  9. You will then be taken into the job bank.
  10. Upload RESUME to apply - Staff will review your resume before it will be available for use and email you if changes are needed. ( need help?- check Hall Career Center homepage for Resume Power Hours)

You should consider applying for the REACH program at VWCC if you are a student with academic potential and meet one or more (you do not have to have all three) of the following requirements:
·         Receiving financial aid
·         Working with a disability
·         First generation college student (neither parent has a college degree)
Benefits of being a REACH student:
·         Priority registration (sign up for classes before everyone else)!
·         Free personal, academic, and career counseling!
·         Other free resources – field trips, educational workshops, etc.!

VWCC has an International Student Club and all are invited to be a part of things! Our purpose is to provide academic and social support to international students at VWCC (however, you do not have to be an international student to be involved!). We have two events coming up that we hope you will be able to attend!

Last Student Basketball Open Gym

The last student basketball open gym will be on Thursday from 3:00 - 3:50 PM.  Open gym is located in Humanities Gymnasium.  Half court pick-up and shoot around basketball available.  Students need to bring their student ID with fall sticker to sign-in.  Questions about open gyms, email Nick Owens at nowens@virginiawestern.edu.

Audio-Visual Production Club Photo Booth + Bake Sale

The A/V Club is hosting a photo booth and bake sale this Wednesday, 10/9/2013. Come by and get a picture or video taken in front of a big green screen, pick a place you  want to be, and they'll make it seem like you're really there. Or just come and buy some awesome baked goods. Or do both if you so choose. All proceeds will
help support the Audio-Visual Production Club.
