The OPPSS Program will sponsor a session with Guest presenter: The Blue Ridge Women’s Center staff person Katie Fagan
Katie will give information on the Free clinical and counseling services offered at the Blue Ridge Women’s Center for women who are Pregnant and for New Parents.
Thursday March 28th 2-3pm in the Natural Science Center
All Students who are Parents or Pregnant are invited. Come and become a part of the VWCC Student Parents Community and receive valuable information from the Blue Ridge Women’s Center

Book Drive/Early Childhood Literacy Awareness Days

The 2013 Week of The Young Child is April 13-20 and the theme is Early Years Are Learning Years.  This is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The purpose of the Week of the Young Child™ is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

The Virginia Western Volunteer Center and the Early Childhood Education Department is holding a children's book drive/Awareness Day to serve literacy needs in our community.

Please bring new or gently used books for Pre-K through 5th grade students! 

When: Wednesday, April 3, 11-2 & Thursday, April 4, 2-5

Where: Craig Hall, outside the Campus Bookstore

The Campus Bookstore will be offering a new book, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, at a reduced price.  This is one of Virginia's pre-selected children's books for Week of the Young Child.

All books will be donated to TAP Head Start.

Early Childhood Literacy Awareness Days & Book Drive

Stop by to get resources and learn about literacy needs in our community.  Please bring gently used or new children’s books (pre-kindergarten- 5th grade) to donate to TAP Head Start.  Students will be able to purchase Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, one of Virginia’s pre-selected Children’s books, at a reduced price in the Campus bookstore to donate to the cause. 

 

Feeding America Hunger Study Information Session

Monday, April 8th 12pm-1pm

Natural Science Center

Feeding America Southwest VA will be on campus to speak about VOLUNTEER AND INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES that are available! Volunteers are needed to help with the client survey by working in teams to visit assigned food distribution sites throughout Southwest Virginia to randomly select clients for a computer-based interview. Teams of 3 to 4 will be paired with a food pantry, shelter, or soup kitchen to conduct client interviews. This great opportunity allows volunteers to learn more about hunger in their community.

Play games and spend time with the residents!
