FREE tickets to the Trane Music Festival to benefit CCAP

Stop by Webber Hall (third floor lobby) to pick up  FREE TICKETS to the Trane Music Festival to benefit CCAP!!!
·         Wednesday, March 13 2-4 p.m.
·         Thursday, March 14 1-3 p.m.
·         Friday, March 15 12-2 p.m.
The Trane Music Festival to benefit CCAP is on Sat., March 16, 4-7:30 p.m.,  at the Roanoke Performance Arts Theatre. Spend a fun Saturday with your family, enjoy great music and benefit Virginia Western...all at the same time!
If you miss your chance to get free tickets: General Admission is $10, and under 16 is FREE. Tickets available now at the Roanoke Civic Center box office. On the day of the event, tickets will be available at the box office at the Roanoke Performing Arts Theater beginning at 2 p.m. All proceeds go directly to make college possible for local high school graduates.
The Trane Music Festival to benefit CCAP will include performances by high school concert bands from currently participating CCAP localities, including William Fleming, Patrick Henry, Salem and Franklin County High Schools, in addition to a Roanoke Symphony Orchestra ensemble performance.

Please join the Educational Foundation for the annual awards ceremony on Thurs., March 14 at 4 p.m. in Whitman Theater. A reception will immediately follow the ceremony in the lobby.
The 2012-2013 scholarship donors and recipients will be recognized. The 2012 and 2013 Distinguished Alumni Awards will be presented. The 2012-13 Community College Impact Award will also be presented.

Student Graduation Speaker Applications Accepted Now

Are you graduating in May and have a great story about what Virginia Western has meant to you? Have you overcome obstacles to pursue your education and find success? Do you think you can inspire others to follow their dreams?

Maybe you should consider applying to become Virginia Western’s student speaker at commencement. We are accepting applications at publicrelations@virginiawestern.edu from now until noon on March 22. Please include the following required information:

  • Full name
  • Contact information
  • Degree
  • Letter of recommendation from at least one faculty member
  • Synopsis of speech topic

The student speaker will present a 5-10 minute speech in front of approximately 5,000 people at the Commencement Ceremony on May 10, 2013 at the Salem Civic Center. Interviews will be held during the last week of March to determine the student speaker, and the selected speaker must write a speech that will be reviewed and must be available to rehearse it prior to the ceremony.

The Student Council is an organization where students can share ideas, opinions, and make recommendations to college staff! The Student Council meets monthly and is open to all Virginia Western students!

Snacks (Salsa and Chips, Cookies and Reese's Minis) will be available!

Are you getting your volunteer hours in?

Don't forget to sign up for 'A Semester of Service'!  Check the Student Bulletin to find upcoming service events. 

Students who complete 20 or more hours of community volunteer service this semester will be invited to have lunch with Dr. Sandel, President of Virginia Western Community College, on April 30th, 2013. 

Requirements:

  • Must volunteer for at least one group service event with the Virginia Western Volunteer Center
  • Must keep track of Volunteer hours using the Volunteer Center's verification form
