'A Semester of Service' provides students the opportunity to serve their community through group involvement that builds relationships, expands the mind and enriches the spirit.
Each month the volunteer coordinator will coordinate one or two service project events, taking a small group of students to volunteer at the designated organization. Transportation is provided.
March Service Projects:
Feeding America Southwest Virginia- Wednesday, March 20, 2013
"One in Six People in Southwest Virginia struggles to have adequate access to food." More than 60,000 lbs of food is rescued every month thanks to the volunteers at Feeding America Southwest Virginia. Volunteers rescue food by sorting dented cans, crushed boxes, or other superficially damaged food to ensure the food inside is safe and consumable.
Be a Quality Assurance Volunteer and help rescue food before it goes out into the community!
Time: 1pm-4pm (We will leave VWCC around 12:15)
S. Roanoke nursing Home- Wednesday, March 27, 2013
Nursing home residents often look forward to scheduled activities including card games, crafts and musical performances. When volunteers visit, the residents receive extra one-on-one attention which can be rewarding for everyone involved.
Spend time with residents at the South Roanoke Nursing Home!
We will leave VWCC around 1:30 p.m. and return around 3:15.
Please contact Lori Mier, Volunteer Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or 857-6688 to attend one of these service events. Limited seats available!
