Educational Foundation Board Member Jerry Pace

It is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of the passing of Jerry Pace, a dear friend of Virginia Western who passed away this past Wednesday. A board member, professor, and personal friend, Jerry joined the Educational Foundation Board of Directors in 2007 and was instrumental in the creation of the City of Salem Community College Access Program (CCAP) the following year in 2008. Through Jerry’s work and leadership, CCAP has now expanded to cover Roanoke City and Franklin County. Not content to simply help students access education, he began teaching courses in the School of Business, Engineering, and Technology in 2010 allowing students to learn from an individual with an extensive background in private industry. Jerry was also a scholar of the writings of the Apostle Paul and the Dead Sea Scrolls and worked through our Workforce Solutions office to offer presentations on those topics.

You can learn more about Jerry and the lasting impact he will leave on Salem and the entire Roanoke Valley by clicking here. The family will receive visitors at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Jerry’s life will be held on Saturday, April 21 at 12:30 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Salem. Our deepest sympathies are extended to Jerry’s family and friends.

Jerry’s smiling face, jovial spirit, and kind heart will be deeply missed on this campus. His commitment to education, our college, and most importantly our students was evident each and every day by his actions in and out of the classroom. His memory will continue through the numerous lives he affected and the spirits he gladdened.
