Mission: In order to address persistent conditions of economic and social inequities, Alliance for Excellence seeks to enhance opportunities for Black youth through a partnership of community colleges and Black churches. Alliance for Excellence seeks to increase participation in higher education among young people in the Black communities of south central Virginia where significant obstacles to equitable economic opportunity remain. We believe that higher education is the key to success in our society today. The collaboration among community colleges, Black churches and other youth and economic development programs will foster the leadership skills, social awareness, educational qualifications, and marketability essential for meaningful employment, personal fulfillment, and economic advancement.
The Alliance seeks to foster greater access and success in higher education and to promote the personal and economic benefits of educational achievement. Guided by a program director and project coordinator, each service region plans programs and activities to meet the needs of their communities. These activities include:
