Banned Book Club Selection: Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

Available for checkout at Brown Library and at your local public libraries.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil coverThe Banned Book Club’s next selection is Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt.

Published in 1994, this was his first book, and it immediately became a New York Times bestseller. It is considered a “non-fiction novel,” in the tradition of Truman Capote, and was banned for the first time earlier this year at a North Dakota high school. The ban lasted four days. Read more about it here. You may also be interested in this study guide, which includes themes, criticism, quotes, and more about this book.

The Banned Book Club will meet Tuesday, December 8th, at 6pm in the library study room, top floor of Brown. For more reading suggestions, check out the American Library Association’s top ten lists of most frequently challenged books of the 21st century.

Send questions and suggestions to Amanda Hall or Kalyca Schultz. The club is open to faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.
