Library Director to Retire

dh“Please join me in congratulating David Hillman on his 36 years of service to Virginia Western as Learning Resources Center Director, and on his upcoming retirement at the end of December. David came to VWCC in 1972 as a Catalog Librarian, and in 1974 became Coordinator of Library Services, reporting to Roger Wilson, the Director of Learning Resources at that time. David became Director of Learning of Resources in 1978. Roger shares that in the 1970′s David bought one of the first computers sold in the Roanoke Valley, and subsequently computerized the college library. He received a first place national award for Best Computerized Small Libraries as a result. Throughout his career, David has worked dilligently to continually update the library, adapt to new technologies, and ensure that students and faculty have access to the most current resources to facilitate scholarly work. His efforts on behalf of the college have had a positive impact on all of us, and will continue to impact us in the years ahead. I hope you will join me in wishing David the best as he begins a new chapter in his life.” ——Anne B. Kornegay, Interim Vice President, Academic & Student Affairs
